COO|CFO|CAO Innovation Summit

June 12 | 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm | Nashville Music City Center

Technology and its impact to Commercial Real Estate is no longer a tactical discussion but rather an important component of the overall business strategy.

Strategic business leaders are no longer interested in just managing incremental improvements on the operational side of the business, but also must clearly understand the changing occupant experience and ultimately, how we use and manage space. Specific examples of this transformation include companies such as WeWork redefining the office and Amazon altering the fundamental structure of retail and industrial real estate.

Commercial Real Estate Executives' inherent role now is to understand the fundamentals of emerging technology, automation and innovation – and then determine how it will impact the built environment.

The Commercial Real Estate COO|CFO|CAO Innovation Summit is an environment where industry executives can gather with colleagues to discover, discuss and debate the future impacts that technology will have on our industry. It will also foster a community of peers and likeminded individuals to network, exchange information and share best practices. This Summit is open to Commercial Real Estate COOs, CAOs, CFOs or others involved in finance or administration only.

Times Are Changing – Developing a DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION Strategy
Date: 6/12/2019    Time: 1:35 pm - 2:05 pm    Location: Room 207B
Commercial Real Estate used to be a whole lot simpler. Buy a building in a good area, make improvements and then raise rents; that was the basic formula. In its early days, technology was considered tactical by CRE executives, but all that has changed. Technology moved from the back office to the buildings, and now on to tenants and visitors. In addition, concepts like ‘space as a service’ and co-working (in office); and e-commerce and digital stores (in retail) are redefining how we use space. With this in mind, senior executives have a lot to consider. What exactly is a Digital Transformation Strategy? Who will drive it? Who is on the team? And how do we do business while making major changes? These are some of the questions to be addressed in this important session.

Drivers of Innovation – Meet the COO/CFO/CAO INNOVATION SUMMIT SPONSORS
Date: 6/12/2019    Time: 2:05 pm - 2:35 pm    Location: Room 207B
There are many forces that shape the direction and velocity of innovation. Navigating changing cultures, operating models, business processes—and humans in general—is not an easy task. When you look at the innovation eco-system, solution providers are typically the ones driving innovation and change. They see an economic opportunity to provide a technology or service to improve a process and take the risk to create it. Solution providers are also good barometers of the market. They talk to thousands of people and change direction based on market feedback. This segment of COO/CFO/CAO Innovation Summit is an opportunity for executive leaders to hear from the most successful, engaged and thoughtful companies who will share their perspective on the industry.

Creating an ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE Strategy – Aligning the Organization’s Technology Portfolio
Date: 6/12/2019    Time: 2:35 pm - 3:05 pm    Location: Room 207B
It was easy when accounting, budget & forecasting and email were the only variables to consider for automation. Fast forward to 2019 and the number of applications has grown exponentially. What this means is that data integration, data integrity, single source of the truth, interoperability, real-time reporting, machine learning, building and tenant connectivity, and cybersecurity all need to be viewed as components of a comprehensive end-to-end enterprise architecture. As companies are refreshing ERP and accounting platforms, or re-engineering for the future, this is one of the most important decisions to be made. Given the breadth of impact, expanded executive involvement is required. This instructive session will explore leadership’s role in developing the enterprise architecture strategy.

Date: 6/12/2019    Time: 3:05 pm - 3:40 pm    Location: Room 207B
Staying on top of new technology and developing a Digital Transformation strategy is important, but the first step is to understand the ways we use space. Technology impacts not only how we operate Real Estate—but also how we use it. Mobile technology, the Internet and a host of applications including AI are changing how we use office space; phones, the cloud and electronic marketplaces like Amazon continue to impact retail; online retailing and future technologies such as 3D printing are set to change the industrial Real Estate landscape. Technology impacts all the ways we live, work and play and this conversation will focus on space usage trends over the next decade.

Managing the Chaos - A Discussion on Best Practices for Vetting and Piloting Innovative PROPTECH Solutions
Date: 6/12/2019    Time: 3:55 pm - 4:25 pm    Location: Room 207B
Industry estimates say there are over 3,500 PropTech companies offering technology solutions for commercial real estate organizations, and that list is growing daily. No single real estate organization would need to assess and evaluate the entire universe of start-ups, but there could still be a large number of PropTech companies of interest. Once identified, those solutions would require evaluating for fit, then must be vetted and piloted. A number of forward-thinking organizations have put together structured plans and procedures for identifying and piloting innovative technologies. Establishing the required technology partnership structure, developing internal and external teams, and defining benchmarks for success are just some of the facets of standardizing this innovation process. Please come to the sessions with a few ideas in mind: specifically, products that you are currently piloting; technologies that you have previously piloted successfully (and why); and technologies that you have piloted and struggled with (and why).

Challenge or Opportunity – Navigating the Impact of SPACE-AS-A-SERVICE & CO-WORKING
Date: 6/12/2019    Time: 4:25 pm - 4:50 pm    Location: Room 207B
Although Space as a Service and Co-Working is a 30+ year old topic, companies such as WeWork, Convene, Industrious, CommonGrounds and others have recently ignited the conversation. Leveraging the densification of underutilized office space represents billions of dollars in new opportunity. Providing multiple-range lease options for tenants, flexible terms, and better amenities at lower costs is taking the world by storm. Office owners, operators, hotels, airports and even restaurants are getting into the underutilized space game. This informative segment will allow for a spirited discussion on Space as a Service and Co-Working. The biggest question to be answered: Is this a Challenge, Opportunity or Both?

EMERGING TECH – A Real Estate Market Assessment of AI | Blockchain & More
Date: 6/12/2019    Time: 5:20 pm - 5:45 pm    Location: Room 207B
The headlines four years ago were bold: emerging technologies such as AI, Blockchain, Immersive, Autonomous and others were poised to radically disrupt the Commercial Real Estate market. While everyone agrees that this next generation of technology will change the world, the timing of adoption and the level of disruption over time has many variables; we need to understand technology’s longevity and evolution to cast into strategic planning. One of the biggest problems is getting past the hype and fake news to the facts regarding any given technology’s status and legitimate impact. This extensive segment will provide a quick review of the major emerging technologies, an overview of legitimate cases studies and a strategic discussion on the current state of adoption.
