Pre-Con Events: June 5 | Innovation Tech Tours: June 8

Commercial Real Estate COO|CFO|CAO Innovation Summit

June 5 | 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm | The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Technology and its impact to Commercial Real Estate is no longer a tactical discussion but rather an important component of the overall business strategy.

Strategic business leaders are no longer interested in just managing incremental improvements on the operational side of the business, but also must clearly understand the changing occupant experience and ultimately how we use and manage space. Specific examples of this transformation include companies such as WeWork redefining the office and Amazon altering the fundamental structure of retail and industrial real estate.

Commercial Real Estate Executives' inherent role now is to understand the fundamentals of emerging technology, automation and innovation-and then determine how it will impact the built environment.

The Commercial Real Estate COO|CFO|CAO Innovation Summit is an environment where Executives can gather with peers to discover, discuss and debate the future impacts that technology will have on our industry. It will also foster a community of peers and likeminded individuals to network, exchange information and share best practices. This Summit is open to commercial real estate COOs, CAOs, CFOs or others involved in finance or administration only.

In addition to industry conversations, participants will have the opportunity to hear from domain experts on topics such as: Cybersecurity, Smart Buildings, Robotic Automation, AI, Autonomous Vehicles, Blockchain, and Virtual/Augmented Reality. Other topics such as Digital Transformation, ERP Strategy, Lease Process Automation, the Technology Skills Gap and Organizational Realignment will also be addressed.

Embracing a SMART BUILDING STRATEGY – Moving from Early Stage to Greater Adoption
Date: 6/5/2018    Time: 2:15 pm - 2:50 pm    Location: Nolita 3
Numerous systems, nothing connected, sparse and disorganized data, repetitive tasks, missed opportunities, expensive operations and unhappy tenants: these are just a few of the attributes of traditional ‘unconnected’ buildings. The industry is now embracing the idea that every building needs a smart architecture or network to connect all aspects of the building to deliver a higher level of service to the tenants and create a safe, enjoyable and engaging environment. Real estate executives are starting to better understand the benefits and capabilities of smart, connected, high-performance buildings, and their impact to the bottom line. While this conversation will provide an update on state-of-the-art technologies and concepts, it will also focus on the business drivers behind smart building infrastructure.

Date: 6/5/2018    Time: 3:45 pm - 4:15 pm    Location: Nolita 3
Every day there are numerous stunning headlines predicting that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be transforming our world, eliminating millions of jobs and totally disrupting major industries. In addition to the hype, there is a fair amount of confusion regarding artificial intelligence, machine and deep learning. While this new technology will certainly impact our industry, questions remain regarding exactly how and to what extent. This conversation will begin with a high-level overview of AI by an industry domain expert. Once a general understanding is achieved, the discussion and debate will center on ways it is already being utilized in real estate, as well has how it may impact other industries who use our space to conduct business. This will be an opportunity to strategize with peers on this very important topic.

Blockchain is another emerging technology that has the potential to radically transform a multitude of processes found in our industry. Leasing transactions, title chains, financial platforms, asset management, as well as a host of operational tasks are all potential beneficiaries of blockchain technologies. While only a few examples of legitimate blockchain applications can be found in real estate, other industries such as financial services, logistics and retail are forging ahead at a much faster speed. It is important to keep an eye on the progress of these other industries while at the same time beginning to integrate the technology into our strategies. This instructive segment will allow industry executives to get beyond the technology and begin to explore the business implications of blockchain.

SPACE AS A SERVICE – Friend, Foe, Both Or A Passing Fad?
Date: 6/5/2018    Time: 5:05 pm - 5:40 pm    Location: Nolita 3
The co-working and flex space movement has been around for over 30 years…it is not new. In the 80s, IBM sent many of their employees home to work, citing convenience, flexibility, efficiency and lower costs. Fast forward to 2018 and companies such as WeWork are taking the concept to another level. Rumor has it that a number of major hotel chains are getting ready to announce their own versions of co-working concepts. To make matters even more interesting, while owner/developers work to create their own versions of shared space, others speculate that it will be the technology that supports this new model that will be the key. Should this be considered a massive transformational threat, a great opportunity or passing fad? For any real estate executive dealing with the ‘space as a service’ issue, this is a critical conversation.

Digital transformation, PropTech, disruption, disintermediation and radical change are the buzzwords being discussed by today’s commercial real estate executives. We're beginning to realize that this is not just about incremental adjustments to the traditional way of doing things, but rather major, paradigm-shift changes that are altering the fundamentals of our business. How does a company maintain their current success trajectory while planning for the new business models being introduced as a result of an increase in technological capabilities? How do you deal with so many major changes all at once? How do I educate myself and my company? These are just a few of the questions to be addressed in this important and timely segment.
