Achieving Organizational Alignment on Technology, Automation and Innovation - Seven CBRE Executives Speak Out! (more info)
Date: Time: - Location:
The management, transactions and use of commercial buildings require an inordinate amount of information exchange. Historically, the businesses processes associated with buildings have been managed by different departments with occasional overlap and need for interaction.
As technology has advanced at lightening speed, the resultant automated business processes are redefining departmental responsibilities and rewriting workflow. In some cases, this means elimination of some traditional job functions and the creation of new ones. This also means that as the workflow straddles different departments, teams will have to communicate aggressively as they rewrite the operational handbook.
Today, neither the technology nor the costs are proving to be the inhibitors to transformational automation projects, but rather the people. Career long habits, very strong and compartmentalized business unit structures, breakdowns in communications, a lack of understanding when it comes to technologies capabilities and in some cases fear, are what are holding back transformational organizational changes enabled by the aggressive implementation of automation.
CBRE will take center stage in the combined Realcomm and IBcon General Session to have a spirited discussion on the importance of Organizational Re-Alignment as influenced by technology, automation and innovation. It is very rare to see executives from one company, representing seven different business functions, on one stage, to discuss as a group, the strategic and transformational impacts that automation can have on a real estate organization. The General Session will feature top leadership from CBRE:
• Don Goldstein, Global Chief Information Officer
• Tony Long , President Asset Services
• Laura O'Brien, SVP, Operations and Special Projects
• David Pogue, National Director of Sustainability
• Peter Scarpelli, VP, Global Leader of Energy Services
• Elie Finegold, SVP, Global Innovation and Business Intelligence
• Xavier Menendez, Sr. Managing Director, Corporate Services

Establishing and Selling the Vision - Engaging Facilities, IT, Energy & Sustainability (more info)
Date: 6/13/2012 Time: 1:15PM - 2:30PM Location:
The phrase "Intelligent Building" has come to mean different things to different people. This confusion has slowed adoption of many good ideas. Prior to a technical discussion of a smart building, it is important to be able to first clearly articulate a vision as it relates to energy conservation, sustainability, organizational efficiency, financial performance andr occupant satisfaction. This session will discuss the importance of establishing a comprehensive vision that is communicated to every stakeholder inside and outside an organization.

Smart Grid - Connecting the Building for Demand Response and Beyond (more info)
Date: 6/14/2012 Time: 11:15AM - 12:30PM Location:
For more than five years, Realcomm has been taking about the smart grid. Modernizing the entire electrical infrastructure is no small task given the elaborate and complicated relationship between suppliers, distributors and end-users. It gets more intricate when one considers the complexity that new digital capabilities will bring. One of the most important aspects of the smart grid is the end-user, the building itself, and yet, very few actual case studies have emerged. This session will be an update on the most successful case studies of smart buildings that are connected to the smart grid.

Smart Cities - Myth or Reality (more info)
Date: 6/14/2012 Time: 1:30PM - 2:45PM Location:
The idea of a smart city is not new. Walt Disney first talked about EPCOT in the early '60s. Over the years, we have seen Tron, Smart Cities and others with contemporary examples in projects like Digital Media City, New Songdo, Lavasa and Living PlanIT. In recent times we have seen an increase in the "lists" that name the smartest, most intelligent cities in the world. The big question remains... is there anything beyond the marketing? This session will review the multitude of smart and intelligent city projects around the world and try to uncover what is myth and what is reality.

Track: IB.DATA
It is one thing to install intelligent building technologies and another to deliver an intelligent, high performance building. The key to a successful implementation is the discovery, capture, understanding and utilization of data from a variety of building devices on the network. This track will cover acquiring data from a multitude of disparate devices, utilizing comprehensive analytic platforms, deploying effective visualization tools and integrating data into a wide range of automated processes.
Included sessions are:
Data Grab - Different Strategies of Acquiring Data from Disparate Building Systems (more info)
Date: 6/14/2012 Time: 9:00AM - 10:15AM Location:
The beginning of the building automation process begins with gathering the data from a multitude of devices. Whether analog cameras, a legacy utility meter, an outdated access control device or an old HVAC system, accessing the data is not always easy. To make matters more complicated, another issue is whether the data comes from the automation controller or the device itself. The bottom line is that very early on in the system design process, these "data grabbing" strategies need to be defined. In addition, data normalization and standardization will also be discussed.

Performance Optimization - The ABCs of Commissioning (more info)
Date: 6/14/2012 Time: 1:00PM - 2:15PM Location:
Commissioning, De-Commissioning, Retro-Commissioning, Continuous Commissioning...a lot of commissioning is going on. The bottom line is that the performance of our building systems drifts over a period of time and despite great technologies, they never seem to fully deliver on the promise of efficient operations. Is it the systems, our people or our processes? So the question is: "How can we discern what a building is capable of and how can it be optimized?" This session will provide a lively debate on the topic of commissioning intelligent systems.
