General Session Unveils the Next "Big Idea"
Anniversaries are an important event. They signify focus, passion and commitment. At Realcomm San Diego we will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary. Starting at the Chicago Hyatt in 1999 we have come a long way. Since the beginning we have been committed to providing the commercial and corporate real estate industry with relevant, timely and cutting edge information regarding technology and innovation.

To celebrate this event we are dedicating our General Session to the “Big Idea”. Most of these ideas, although they are big now, all started out as small and in many cases insignificant ideas. Getting the brokerage industry to aggregate their listings, in 1999 that was almost an absurd idea, we are glad LoopNet did not think so. How about being able to view a property from the air, without having to leave the comfort of your desk, Keyhole, now Google Earth solved that problem for us. Then there was the notion that people would hang flat screens in office lobbies and malls. Back then flat screens were $14,000 each. How about wireless, something we all depend on today, at Realcomm 1999, we had two competing wireless technologies, Home RF and 802.11. We now know which was the winner.
Overall, Realcomm has had a pretty good track record of staying one step ahead of the trends. At the time, this information may not seem important or even relevant, however, as time has shown us, it was important and it in many respects changed the way our industry conducted business. In line with our theme of “Celebrating the Big Idea”, we are going to use our general session to explore what the next 10 years might look like. We are going to have some of the most successful, visionary and influential people in our industry, share their prognostications for the next 10 years. Just like 1999, the information may seem wildly improbable, but as history has shown us, there is a strong probability that many of these ideas will someday become main stream in our industry.
Nowhere else in world will you hear so many notable executives talk about what’s happening @ the Intersection of Commercial Real Estate, Corporate Real Estate, Technology and Innovation. If you truly want to maintain a competitive edge in this fast changing world you cannot afford to miss this session!
The following is a summary of the speakers and topics. This list is still not final as we continue to evaluate the “Big” ideas which could impact our industry!
Anant Yardi, Founder and CEO, Yardi Systems – Defining the “Big” Ideas
